Totally agree with the analogy to Descartes. I remember thinking, when I read that he argued he could conceive of himself without his body but not without his mind, “dude no you can’t. You’ve only ever conceived anything as an embodied consciousness. Whether ‘you’ could even exist as a disembodied thing is pure speculation, speculation that runs contrary to all our experience.

As for solipsism, see my article “It’s Not All About You”. I actually think you can show that solipsism isn’t even logically possible, using Wittgenstein’s private language argument to prove my point.
