Saying America is a republic, not a democracy, is like saying humans are mammals, not animals.

A republic is a kind of democracy. And in any kind of democracy, whether it be republic or constitutional monarchy or what have you, everyone’s vote is supposed to count the same, regardless of race, sex, religion, or where you happen to live.
