Rather than trying to defend how the government would use wealthy people’s money, I think of it in terms of how those who really need money to pay for food, clothing, and shelter would use it as opposed to people for whom it is basically funny money.

Elon Musk had a few extras billions lying around, so he bought a social media platform. Based on the amount of spam and disinformation emanating from that platform now compared to before he bought it, I’d say those billions would have been much better spent paying for things like insulin and school supplies.
