People coming from a computer science background are unfortunately likely to have a very early 20th century, analytic philosophy take on truth and meaning. That is, if it can’t be reduced to statements in propositional logic, it’s meaningless and can be ignored.

People with these kinds of ontological/epistemological commitments tend to have similarly impoverished ethical concepts, with complex moral beings reduced to homo economicus.

It’s funny because they see faith as unscientific, but their notion of freedom requires simply asserting that a formal structure equals freedom and peoples experience is irrelevant.
