Institutions can serve to distribute power across society, safeguarding individual liberty and dignity. I’d argue that liberals have always favored those kinds of institutions, and judges who decide cases accordingly.

Conservatives, on the other hand, have always viewed institutions as means to legitimize “traditional” distributions of power (ie ones that favor wealthy straight white Christian men), and judges who decide cases accordingly.
