I’m assuming nothing of the sort. If you don’t believe me, read my book Truth Evolves, in which I explicitly reject the idea of an absolute Truth.

What I assume is that claims of fact are claims of fact and not mere opinion because they refer to some state of affairs that can be plumbed with evidence and rational argument.

There is no final Theory of Everything in physics, and I don’t expect there will be. But should that mean that all physicists should throw their hands up and abandon the scientific enterprise? Of course not! There will always be unanswered questions and disagreement in areas like economics. Should all economists give up their field of study as hopeless? Obviously not!

We might never find a Final Truth, but we can be less wrong.
