I think that's partly true. There are several ideological currents running through contemporary conservatism - populism, isolationism, libertarianism, religious fundamentalism, racism, etc. - and many of them are in tension if not downright contradictory. But they all have in common the fact that they reject the kinds of large-scale (often international) institutions necessary to structure a global economy, and they reject democratic institutions insofar as those institutions tend to divert power away from capitalists, Christians, and others who have traditionally held sway over Western societies.
The common denominator is nihilism.
