I really like that idea of voting patterns as meta communication. Unfortunately, I suspect that the GOP (and some Democrats) have a vested interest in not understanding the meta commentary implicit in those voting patterns. It's the same reason they don't want to address gerrymandering, or allow ranked choice voting, or any other policy that might make elections more representative and engaging.
