I listen to many people who hold views different from my own. I regularly read Ross Douthat’s columns, for example, as well as the work of Rod Dreher, even though they are religious conservatives and I am neither.

My problem with Peterson isn’t the positions he takes so much as the fallacies that lead him there, and especially the faux intellectual jargon he uses to make his positions sound more cogent than they really are.

I’m not telling people not to have an open mind. But I also don’t think it makes one close minded to refrain from indulging snake oil salesmen, conspiracy theorists, and new age gurus. A healthy diet of the body includes a diverse array of foods, but not junk food. The same can be said for a healthy diet of the mind.
