I had similar feelings as I realized during high school that I really didn’t believe in my parents religion anymore. I began to think of myself as an anthropologist, studying the religious rituals of a foreign tribe. That gave me some emotional distance, and allowed me to observe some things that many churchgoers themselves probably didn’t recognize.
