I feel you. I think you can still get some enjoyment out of these occasions, though, if you treat them as opportunities to find other introverts. Use the small talk, boring as it is, to discover who's interested in the big talk.

I don't like most parties, but if you find a good group of other introverts, it's possible to have some very stimulating parties of your own.
