I don’t believe unity can happen without truth-telling. Polarization in this country is asymmetrical, with Republicans having gone much farther to the right that Democrats have to the left.

According to the Manifesto Project, which scores major Western political parties based on their platforms, the Democrats are a mainstream center-left party, but the Republicans are as far right as parties like Le Rassemblement National of France and Alternatif fur Deutschland in Germany.

In their countries, such far right parties are often described as fascist.

People called MLK divisive. They called Gandhi divisive. To be called divisive by extremists seeking to impose extreme ideology is a badge of honor.
