I agree with you Joe. We need comprehensive legislation to regulate social media that does at least three things:

1) protect user privacy (perhaps by requiring apps to notify users every time they access our devices or other apps, like the camera, on our devices, and provide an opportunity to withhold consent, rather than asking for consent once.)
2) combat disinformation (perhaps by requiring social media companies or OS makers to install sentiment analysis plug-ins to detect bias and misinformation)
3) treat social media as publishers rather than mere platforms. As McLuhan said, the medium is the message.
