Here’s How I Crushed The 30-In-30 Challenge

And became a Top Writer in the process

“I want to write more this summer,” I told myself. And then, because Big Data is basically in our heads at this point, I saw an article on Medium about the 30-in-30 challenge.

Thirty articles in thirty days. Was I up for it?

For the last few months, I had been writing one or two articles per week. Before that, I wrote with even less frequency. So putting out an article a day seemed daunting, but here’s how I managed it.

Step 1: Divide and Conquer

I like to write about Big Ideas. My most frequent tags are things like Philosophy, Culture, Politics, Society, Psychology, Law, Religion, and so on.

But one danger you can run into when you’re writing about these topics is to go too broad. Typically, for any given subject, there are lots of angles to approach it from.

So, for example, I was able to write a lot of articles about the abortion debate just by finding specific subtopics to address in each article. Same thing for gun control.

Dividing your favorite topics into subtopics will force you to dig deeper, but the reward is that you set yourself apart from others who are also writing on that topic. Even better, you…
