Good article. I think the most important cultural division around the world right now is that between classical liberals and nationalists. Trump, Putin, Erdogan, Modi, Orban, and other nationalist figures argue for isolationism, a return to traditional religious beliefs and traditional gender roles, and against diversity, democracy, and international trade.
Their constituency consists of less-educated men who have seen their status fall most precipitously in a globalized, liberalizing world.
There was an interesting debate between French philosopher Bernard Henri Levi and Russian philosopher Aleksandr Dugin, that gets to the heart of this division. I wrote up a review here:
