Given how many people have been released from death row over the last generation — either because they were just plain innocent or simply wrongfully convicted — fast-tracking death sentences in the manner you suggest would virtually guarantee a whole lot of innocent people get executed.

That’s a recipe for turning the public against the death penalty even faster than they already are.
